words

words
only words
we have
for now
but not
forever

from
first word
to final touch
through
everything
we do

before
between
and after

we speak
we are
love.

Red Rover

Some Saturday morning
when I knock at your door
will you come out
and play with the gang...

If we call you over
while playing red rover,
will you crash through
the line by my side?

And if we play tag
when I chase after you,
will you know why
I want you as it?

Then at hide and seek
when I find you at last
will you run off
if I try for a kiss?

Once away and alone
when you tackle me down
to roll in the grass
could play turn to wonder?

That time we played house
but played doctor instead,
some ways that we touched
mean as much now as then.

if (like vows)

if I had you
to hold you
forever
like vows

would I have you
to hold you
forever
like now

every thought
every word
just kindness
towards you

can I have you
just hold you
forever
us two?

savage snore

when passion fails
and you begin
your savage snore.
I will slip away
to your sisters room
and comfort her
again and again

suitcase

If I knocked at your door
homeless, jobless, penniless,
would you ask me in,
open your heart,
offer your couch?
might we talk until dawn
then sleep through the day,
awake to something near hope?

heartfelt

spooning afterglow
holding soft
your warm tummy

my fingers
move slowly
between your breasts,

creeping further
to rest just below
your collarbone

where forefinger
and thumb surround
that tender spot

where they mended
your broken heart

to leave in my care.

To Talk (the backside of love)

I want to talk.
I want to be home
when your not,
listening to the rain,
from the phone outside.

I want to hear
I want to hear you,
I want to hear you when you cry.

I want to hear you when you cry
outside in the rain,
hear you sob.

I want to look out and see you
break down in the street
and sob in the rain
when I call to say
good-bye.
